How To Embroider Your Logo Onto Aprons

My company – RT Promotions – offers a wide range of aprons to suit any hospitality outlet. They range from long waist, to simple waist styles, and all come with challenges on how best to embroider and personalise them for your business.

I’ve noticed that when clients select a style of apron for their business, they put a great deal of time and effort into choosing the right ‘look’ the right colour and style, and then of course, the right price – but I recommend you give equal consideration to the application of the logo and branding and any other decoration that’s needed.

Remember – these garments are going to get some rough treatment and are certainly going to be washed regularly; so the decoration process has to be able to withstand the rigours of continual use.

Don’t forget – the washing instructions on the label only apply to the garment, not the decoration. With this in mind, we always recommend that only embroidery be used.

Embroidery is harder wearing than other decorative treatments, and is particularly suited to smaller designs and logos. It always has a quality look and feel and will often outlive the garment!!

Embroidery is far more versatile than people imagine – but – do give plenty of thought to the exact position for the logo or design when branding onto aprons.

The best example of getting it wrong is when branding onto a full length apron – as I’ve pictured here. Remember, that when in use, many of your staff will drop the top half of the apron, effectively folding it over, so if you’ve had your logo embroidered centrally and onto the top half – it’s not even going to be visible by the time your staff have folded it over!!!

Half sized or bar aprons, are becoming increasingly popular and pose fresh challenges for where to position your logo. Whatever you do, don’t embroider centrally onto these garments – the design brings far to much attention to the crotch area – not a good idea!!! A really effective position is onto the thigh area and it has the added advantage of being clear of any pockets.

My clients often see me as a consultant.

They come to me with a scenerio or problem and seek a solution.

With open-minded, well prepared clients, it’s not that hard to assist, but I’d like to share with you a case study that occurred just this week.

 My client has already had embroidered corporate clothing for his team. He had been fairly precise over his requirements:
* Classy Shirts
* Non button-down collar
* Breast pocket
* Short Sleeved shirts
* High cotton content

We met these requirements, and embroidered all of the garments (polo shirts and jackets all featured in the spec), and all was well.

The time had come for some new clothing, and he had made the decision to go for a different shirt. I questioned him on the specifics, and he hit me with the exact same wish list. When I told him this, he said, “Yes, the same, but different”.  Simple stuff then, simple white or pale blue corporate shirts? YES came the reply. So imagine my suprise, when he then picked out a garment that was very sporty, with big thick coloured inserts. “There you go, that’s what I’d like”, he told me. So that’s what I quoted him.

Your Staff’s ‘Image’

I stopped by one of my favourite local restaurants the other night. It was time to do a little reflecting on my business goals, and what better way to do it than to kick back with a bottle of wine (I walked there, so didn’t have to worry about driving), some great food, and lose myself in the noisy background clutter of a busy restaurant?

The owner came and sat down with me and asked “what do you think I should be doing with my staff clothing?”. He knew it was time to have them wear a ‘corporate look’, but wasn’t sure how to go about achieving it. The restaurants brand is good, the colour scheme lends itself really well to a wide range of embroidered and personalised clothing that would look good. What my advice boiled down to was how we would interpret all of this into an embroidered look. I showed him my recommendations, literally, on the back of a serviette, and we agreed a deal, before the main course was served.

I’ve been a customer of theirs for ages, and they knew what line of business I am in. He’s been meaning to buy off me for some time, maybe as much as a year, which just goes to show that most people ‘buy’ only when it suits their needs.

Embroidered workwear is a powerful way of lifting the overall ‘look’ and feel of a restaurant, as well as overcoming those difficult moments of staff wearing inappropriate clothing, but don’t forget, simply, classy, embroidered clothing could be right for your business.
